June 27, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Maxim Integrated Products (Sunnyvale, CA) has debuted the MAX1844 single PWM controller. Claimed to have high efficiency, excellent transient response, and high dc output accuracy, the controllers are suitable for use in CPU core, chipset, DRAM and other low-voltage supplies.

Features of the MAX1844 include a 1-percent Vout accuracy over line and load, Quick-PWM with 100ns load-step response, and a battery input range from 2V to 28V. There is a 1.8V/2.5V fixed or 1V to 5.5V adjustable output range. The device has adjustable over- and under-voltage protection. It features a 1.7ms digital soft-start and drives large synchronous-rectifier FETs.

The MAX1844 is available in a 20-pin QSOP package. Pricing starts at $2.60 in quantities of 1,000 and up.
