Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) introduced its new LTC3780, a high-performance, buck-boost, switching regulator controller that operates from input voltages above, below or equal to the output voltage. LTC3780 operates using a single inductor and can deliver output power as high as 75 W; a four-switch synchronous rectification delivers efficiencies up to 97%.
The constant-frequency, current-mode architecture allows a phase-lockable frequency of up to 400 kHz. With a wide 4 V to 30 V (36 V maximum) input and 0.8 V to 30 V output range and seamless transitions between operating modes, the LTC3780 is suitable for automotive, telecom and battery-powered systems.
The LTC3780 employs a proprietary current-control architecture for constant-frequency operation in buck or boost mode. In addition, fault protection is provided for over-voltage, over-current and short-circuit conditions in all operating modes. A power-good output, open-drain pin signals whether the output voltage is in or out of regulation. The LTC3780 offers three operating modes: constant frequency, burst-mode operation and discontinous current.
The LTC3780 is offered in 24-lead SSOP and 5 mm x 5 mm QFN packages. Pricing for 1,000-piece quantitines starts at $4.65.
