LTC Debuts LT3460 Switching Regulator

May 27, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) announced the new LT3460, a high-efficiency, 1.3MHz, constant-frequency, step-up, switching regulator in an SC-70 or ThinSOT™ package. The LT3460 utilizes an internal 300mA switch that can deliver output voltages as high as 36V from input voltages of 2.5V to 16V. The LT3460 switches at 1.3MHz, allowing the use of tiny, low-cost capacitors and inductors.

The LT3460's wide input voltage range of 2.5V to 16V makes it suitable for a wide array of applications, from lithium-ion-powered handhelds to industrial instrumentation. A low-profile SC70 or ThinSOT package and tiny externals optimizes the LT3460 for space-constrained applications. The LT3460 uses a constant-frequency, current-mode control scheme to provide line and load regulation. Small package size, a high level of integration, and the use of surface-mount components yield a solution size of less than 40mm².

The LT3460 is available from stock in a six-lead SC70 package or a five-lead ThinSOT. Pricing starts at $1.60 for 1,000-piece quantities in the SC70 package and $1.50 for the ThinSOT package.
