LTC Debuts LT3439 DC/DC Transformer Driver

September 03, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) announced the LT3439, an ultra-low-noise, 1A, isolated, push-pull, dc/dc transformer driver in a thermally enhanced TSSOP package. The LT3439 can accommodate an input range of 2.8V to 17.5V to drive an external center-tapped transformer, which supplies an isolated output. The actual output voltage is defined by the turns ratio of the transformer. The LT3439 is suitable for applications such as medical and telecom instrumentation.

The LT3439 utilizes two 1A current-limited power switches at a 50-percent push-pull duty cycle. Slew rates for both output voltage and current can be controlled via a single external resistor. Protection features include current limiting, under-voltage lockout, thermal shutdown and cross-conduction prevention circuitry.

The LT3439 is available from stock in a 16-lead, thermally enhanced, TSSOP-16E package. Pricing starts at $3.50 each for 1,000-piece quantities.
