Linear Technology Unveils LTC3717 DC/DC Controller

March 21, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (Milpitas, CA) introduced the LTC3717, a high output power, wide input supply range, step-down, dc/dc controller for double-data-rate memory and SSTL active termination. It provides a 0.65 percent accurate output-voltage (termination voltage or VTT) equal to one-half of the memory's reference voltage. The IC can be powered from the input supply ranging from 4V to 36V.

The LTC3717 can be directly powered from a high-voltage source, which eliminates the need for an intermediate step-down dc/dc converter. The LTC3717 can sink and source current from 1A to 20A and operates with up to 97 percent efficiency. Applications include servers, telecom equipment, storage (RAID controller) and networking systems, as well as the new generation of notebook and desktop PCs.

The LTC3717 is offered in a 16-lead SSOP for operation from -40 to +85 degrees C. Pricing starts at $2.95 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
