New Products Apr 11, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) introduced its new LT3724 dc-dc controller, which is suitable in applications such as industrial, 12 V and 42 V automotive and heavy equipment, avionics and telecom power systems. The LT3724 is appropriate for use in step-down, step-up, inverting or SEPIC circuits with up to 100 W of output power.

The LT3724 is rated at 125 °C and operates at a constant 200 kHz switching frequency. A power supply incorporating the LT3724 can convert 4 V to 60 V input supplies to a regulated output ranging from 1.23 V to 36 V. The LT3724 has an on-board gate driver capable of driving large N-channel MOSFETs. The controller includes Burst Mode® operation, which reduces quiescent current below 100 µA maintaining high efficiency at light loads. The operating efficiency at full load is slightly less than 95%.

The LT3724 is offered in a thermally enhanced, 16-pin TSSOP, and is rated for operation from -40 °C to +125 °C. Pricing for 1,000-piece quantities begins at $3.10 each.
