Lambda Offers Series of Compact, Low-Cost DC-DC Converters

New Products Sep 25, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

The latest CC-E series of low-cost, compact dc-dc converters designed and manufactured by TDK are now available from Lambda Power, under the new collaborative TDK-Lambda product brand. These 1.5 to 25W converters are RoHS compliant and designed for use in applications ranging from process control to communications equipment.

The CC-E series comprises 68 models, with power ratings of 1.5, 3, 6, 10, 15 and 25W. Models with a power rating of 10W or less can be supplied with a choice of 5, 12, 24 and 48V nominal input and with output voltages of 3.3, 5, 12, 15, +/-12 and +/-15. The 15 and 25W models are available with a 24V input and with output voltages of 3.3 and 5. The dual-output units can be configured as 24 or 30V single outputs.

The series is available in six package sizes, ranging from 0.65 x 0.654 x 0.335 inches (1.5W models) to 1.7 x 1.77 x 0.295 inches (25W models). Because CC-E series converters are smaller, designers can reduce the circuit-board area needed for their power supplies. A choice of through-hole or surface-mount placement is available. No potting is used in manufacturing the converters, which lowers the weight of the 1.5W models to just 3.2 grams. A metal case provides shielding to reduce radiated EMI and enables easy vacuum pickup during automated machine placement.

CC-E series units operate from -40 to +85°C ambient and have an input-to-output isolation of 500Vac. A remote on-off and output trim feature is available on all models. In addition to being RoHS compliant, the converters all conform to UL60950-1, CSA 60950-1 and EN60950-1 standards. The CC-E series of dc-dc converters is available now, with prices starting at $7.10 each in thousand-unit quantities.
