Kyocera Unveils MyGen Meridian Solar PV Module System

March 09, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Kyocera Solar Inc. (Scottsdale, AZ), a leading supplier of solar-electric generating systems, announced its MyGen Meridian™, a UL-listed, photovoltaic (PV) module and mounting system designed to blend in with a tile roof. The MyGen Meridian is the first in Kyocera's new building-integrated PV product line.

In addition to serving as an integral part of the roof, the MyGen Meridian pairs Kyocera's "d.Blue" solar cells with black frames, making the product powerful and inconspicuous. When combined with standard concrete roofing tiles, the MyGen Meridian visually blends with a home's architecture, becoming an energy-producing enhancement to the home's roof.

The MyGen Meridian also incorporates a free airflow framing system for increased thermal efficiency and a "cassette" type module installation, which allows for easy installation and simple replacement of damaged modules without disturbing the roofing material. The d.Blue PV cells utilized in Kyocera's MyGen Meridian modules are made using a manufacturing process that creates a microscopic texture on the cell's multi-crystalline silicon surface.
