IRC Intros Wire-Bondable Chip Resistors

November 01, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

The Advanced Film Division of IRC Inc. (Boone, NC), a subsidiary of TT electronics plc, introduced a series of wire-bondable chip resistors that provide design engineers with tantalum-nitride-based resistors on silicon suited for demanding hybrid applications. The WBC Series resistors feature IRC’s self-passivating tantalum-nitride thin-film technology on silicon substrates.

The resistance values for the resistors have been extended to range from 10 W to 400 kW. The extended range allows for better surge protection in higher-power applications, such as hybrid circuits. The tantalum-nitride film provides precision tolerance and TCR tracking. Absolute tolerance ranges are down to ±0.1 percent, with absolute TCRs to ±25 ppm/°C. The wire-bondable chip resistors are available in 0202 and 0303 chip sizes. The 0303 center-tapped chips can be used in feedback circuits of amplifiers, where ratio matching, high power, and close tracking between two resistors is critical.

Pricing for the WBC Series resistors starts at $1.00 in quantities of 1,000 pieces.
