IR Intros New 600V NPT IGBT Co-Pack Devices

July 14, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier Corp. (IR, El Segundo, CA) introduced a new series of 600V, non-punch-through (NPT), IGBT co-packs that offer improved ruggedness at a lower cost than previous-generation devices. The new devices are designed for appliance motor-drive applications such as clothes washers and air conditioners, as well as light industrial motor-drive applications.

The new co-pack devices consist of a 600V IGBT and a HEXFRED® fast-recovery diode rated at 5A, 7A, 12A or 20A in a single package configured for half-bridge or inverter topology. The new co-packs feature an optimized reverse-bias, a safe operating area (RBSOA) and 10µsec of short-circuit capability, delivering improved ruggedness during startup and abnormal current and voltage spikes.

Pricing for the new co-pack IGBTs starts at $0.71 each in 10,000-unit quantities. The new devices are available immediately.
