IR Intros IRAC1150-D2 PFC Design Kit and Online Tool

July 27, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier Corp. (IR, El Segundo, CA) introduced its new IRAC1150-D2 power-factor correction (PFC) Control Design Kit, with an added PFC design tool to the myPOWER online design center. The Design Kit features the IR1150 µPFC™ for ac-dc PFC, and is a small, 1.1 in², fully assembled, PFC control circuit that engineers can drop in to an existing power supply, replacing the old continuous conduction mode PFC circuit.

Designing with the IR1150 is simplified with the aid of a two-step process, online design tool, whereby users simply enter system requirements, and the design tool generates a complete bill of materials. The design tool simplifies active PFC development so that designers can replace old, passive solutions with poor power factors and low efficiency with modern, more efficient solutions.

The reference design kit comes complete with an assembled and tested reference design board, five IR1150STR ICs, two 8ETX06 Hyperfast rectifiers, a user's guide, application notes, device data sheets and printed circuit board files (Gerber, .dxf and .cad). Data sheets and details are posted on the company's website.

The IRAC1150-D2 reference design board is now available. Pricing is $195 each, and is subject to change. The online PFC design tool is available at no charge, after registering on the myPOWER design center at http://mypower.irf.com.
