IR Introduces UFB200FA20 and UFB200FA40 Diodes

September 16, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier Corp. (IR, El Segundo, CA) introduced the UFB200FA20 and the UFB200FA40 200A, ultrafast, ultrasoft general-purpose output rectifiers in the SOT-227 package.

The new devices are made for output rectification circuits in high-current applications, such as welding, power supplies and battery chargers. The 200A rectifiers have up to 11 percent faster recovery time than competing 200V devices and approximately 17 percent faster recovery time than competing 400V devices.

The UFB200FA20 (200V) and UFB200FA40 (400V) output rectifiers contain two independent diodes electrically isolated from the copper mounting substrate, to simplify heatsink mounting. Newly designed high-performance silicon die allow a thicker substrate to be used, for improved mechanical strength and electrical insulation. Insulation voltage rating is 2,500V RMS between live terminals and the copper base.

Dr. Francesco Vallone, International Rectifier product marketing manager, said, "The four-terminal configuration allows optimum flexibility. The two diodes are independent, and may be used separately or connected in a series, common-anode, or series, common-cathode, configuration."

The new UFB200FA20 (200V) and UFB200FA40 (400V) ultrafast soft-recovery diodes are available immediately. Pricing is $6.80 each for 200V and $7.06 each for 400V devices in 5,000-unit quantities.
