Intersil Offers ISL8483E/ISL8485E Transceivers

August 25, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Intersil Corp. (Milpitas, CA) announced two new 15kV, high electrostatic discharge (ESD) protected, LINEARLINK™ RS-485/422, high-performance data transceivers, the ISL8483E and ISL8485E, which provide the ESD protection required for many industrial applications. Typical applications for the transceivers include factory automation, security networks, keyboard/video/mouse switching, industrial/process control networks, and building environmental control.

The new 5V RS-485/422 transceiver ICs are rated for a 15kV ESD level and are guaranteed to meet the specifications over a ±10% tolerance supply range (4.5V to 5.5V). The half-duplex transceivers offer multiplexed receiver (Rx) inputs and driver (Tx) outputs to support Rx and Tx disable functions. They are fully compliant to RS-485 and RS-422 specifications and support up to 32 devices on the same bus. The common-mode input voltage range for each receiver is -7V to +12V.

Both transceivers are available now. Pricing for 100-unit to 999-unit quantities is $1.30 each for the ISL8483EIB in the SOIC package and the ISL8483EIP in the PDIP package, and $1.20 each for the ISL8485EIB in the SOIC package and the ISL8485EIP in the PDIP package.
