Intersil Debuts ISL6556A/ISL6556B Controller ICs
Intersil Corp. (Irvine, CA) announced the new Endura™ ISL6556A and ISL6556B precision multi-phase PWM controller ICs, which provide the stability and precision required to power the new-generation VR10.X processors while conserving board space and reducing manufacturing costs. The controllers are also backward compatible with VR9.X platforms, and enable the manufacture of VRM10 motherboards at a lower cost. Package options include the 28-lead SOIC and the space-saving, 32-pad, 5mm x 5mm, quad-flat no-lead packages.
A threshold-sensitive enable input is available to accurately coordinate the startup of the ISL6556A with any other voltage rail. Dynamic VID™ technology allows seamless on-the-fly VID changes. The offset pin allows accurate voltage-offset settings that are independent of VID settings. The ISL6556A/B ICs use a 5V bias and have a built-in shunt regulator to allow 12V bias using only a small external limiting resistor. Both ICs offer ±0.5 percent system accuracy over life, load, line and temperature.
The ISL6556A and ISL6556B are available now. Pricing is for 1,000-unit quantities. The ISL6556ACB is priced at $1.85, the ISL6556ACR is $1.90, the ISL6556BCB is $1.90 and the ISL6556BCR is $1.95.
