HP Unveils New UPS with USB and Hot Swap Batteries

October 19, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

Hewlett-Packard (HP) unveiled the HP UPS R1500 G2, a highly efficient and ultra slim 1500 VA rack-mount uninterruptible power system (UPS) to ease network managers' need for additional rack space while maintaining high-availability power backup. With up to 1500VA/1000W, the UPS measures just 1U, or 1.75 inches, giving users an unsurpassed power density.

The HP UPS utilizes a line-interactive topology which features sine wave output and reliable input/output voltage regulation. The HP UPS can correct input voltage variations as low as -35% of nominal voltage without transferring to the battery. This will ensure the battery is preserved and ready for the next power anomaly. The HP UPS R1500 XR G2 provides surge protection for communication equipment such as network devices, a fax machine or a modem via the Network Transient Protector. The UPS also has two separate load segments which provide the flexibility to configure each segment's scheduled startups and shutdowns. Working in conjunction with HP Power Management Software, the HP UPS R1500 G2 can be configured to extend the runtime for more critical devices.

With an increased power rating, intuitive front panel display, Enhanced Battery Management (EBM), prioritized shut-down, and hot-swappable batteries, the HP UPS R1500 G2 is well-suited for rack-based computer systems. The UPS protects IT equipment and customer's data from unplanned down time due to power outages, fluctuations, surges and spikes. Bundled with HP Power Manager management software, the HP UPS R1500 G2 also features a serial and USB port for data exchange with the host computer and remote shut-down. The HP UPS R1500 G2is available now with U.S. Internet prices of $739. Pricing may vary by country or region.
