High-Voltage P-Channel MOSFETs from Zetex

December 14, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Provided in SOT23 and SOT223 packages, the new 200V rated P-channel MOSFETs from Zetex Semiconductors Ltd. will significantly reduce the size of active clamp designs previously reliant on DPAK and SO8 packaged devices.

Two devices are initially offered, the ZXMP2120E5 in the 5-pin SOT23 and the ZXMP2120G4 in the 4-pin SOT223. The inter-pin spacing of both package outlines has been maximized by Ztex to maintain resistance to high-voltage creepage.

In addition, the low gate capacitance P-channel process used to produce the MOSFETs ensures that ringing is reduced during switching transients, resulting in low noise characteristics for these devices.

Since P-channel circuitry is simpler to implement compared with the N-channel counterparts, the ZXMP2120 MOSFETs will enable designers to produce lower cost active clamps in smaller form factor 48V dc-dc forward converters in telecom and server applications.

The 10,000 piece prices for the SOT223 and SOT23 packaged ZXMP2120 MOSFETs are $0.23 and $0.20 each, respectively. Delivery is quoted at 4 to 6 weeks for production volumes.
