High-Performance High-Current Power Inductors

February 19, 2017 by Jeff Shepard

NIC Components Corp. announced the expansion of the metal composite high current shielded power inductor family with the ultra-high performance NPIM_Z series. The NPIM_Z series features soft saturation with Isat current ratings ranging from 3.5A to 40A with an operating temperature range of -40 to +125 degrees C. An AECQ200 option is available with an operating temperature range of -55 to +155 degrees C.

Similar to recent series additions from NIC, such as the NPM(H) and NPIM_L series, the NPIM_Z extends construction availability into the metal composite lineup. The NPIM_Z focuses on reliability and performance including current ratings, ultra-low DCR, very low acoustic noise and very low leakage flux noise. Four footprints are available with sizes ranging from 4.1mm X 4.1mm to 6.6mm X 6.4mm (LxW) with component heights of 1.9mm to 4.8mm. Inductance values range from 0.1uH to 4.7uH in ±20% (M) inductance tolerance.

The NPIM_Z Series meets PB-Free reflow conditions up to 260 degrees C and is RoHS Compliant without exemptions, halogen free and REACH SVHC 173 compliant. An upgrade from standard ferrite-based shielded power inductors molded metal composite construction provides high saturation current characteristics, increased frequency performance, and higher efficiency at higher switching frequencies, making these good choices for today’s efficient dc-dc converters and high density circuits.

The NPIM_Z series is available in an AECQ200 option for use in automotive grade applications or where higher quality components may be required. The NPIM_Z series is designed for use in high current dc-dc converters, in dash automotive applications, LED drivers and motor control noise suppression applications.
