High-Brightness LED Driver Offers Increased Flexibility and Higher Efficiency

New Products May 01, 2013 by Jeff Shepard

Supertex, Inc. has introduced HV9910C, an open loop, current mode, universal high-brightness LED driver IC. It is designed for general and decorative LED lighting, flat panel display backlighting, and other dc-dc or ac-dc input based applications.

HV9910C is an enhanced drop-in replacement to the HV9910B, designed to convert high voltage supplies (85V – 265Vac rectified) or (15V – 450Vdc) to a constant-current source for powering a string or a combination of strings of high brightness LEDs. It can be programmed to operate in either a constant-frequency or constant-off-time mode and includes a 15 – 450V linear regulator which allows it to work from a wide range of input voltages without the need for an external low voltage supply.

“HV9910C requires only three external components (apart from the power stage) to produce a controlled LED current making it an ideal solution for low system cost”, states Alex Mednik, Application Engineering Director at Supertex. “Furthermore, the low component count allows for higher reliability and minimum board space.”

HV9910C is available in a lead (Pb)-free/RoHS compliant 8L SOICN and 16L SOICN package (HV9910CLG-G and HV9910CNG-G, respectively). Samples are available from stock. Lead-time for production quantities is 4-6 weeks, ARO. Pricing is USD$0.36 each for the HV9910CLG-G and USD$0.46 each for the HV9910CNG-G in 1K quantities.
