Gresham Power Unveils eF175 Power Supply

January 04, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Gresham Power (Salisbury, UK) announced its latest ultra-high power density switch-mode power supply, the eF175, which offers 175W of output power from the industry-standard, 3.3in x 5in (84mm x 127mm) footprint. This is the latest introduction into the eF Series of power supplies, which includes the eF306, a quad-output, 300W unit that packs 10W/in³ into a 1U high chassis.

The eF175 is suitable for telecomm, data networking, industrial computer, instrumentation, industrial control and process automation applications. The four output power supplies offer output voltages over 3.3Vdc to 15Vdc at currents of up to 15A. The eF175's ultra-high efficiency comes from a combination of a fixed high-switching frequency, 100KHz; full synchronous rectification on the two main outputs; and one-half synchronous rectification on the two auxiliaries. Losses are further minimized by employing a single controller for the two main outputs that allows up to 15A to be drawn from each.

The eF175 features a worldwide universal input-voltage range from 85Vac to 264Vac and employs active power-factor correction to typically 0.98 at full load with either 110V or 230V inputs. All models are CE marked and certified to EN-60950, UL1950 and meet EN55022 class B for conducted emissions. Mean time between failure is calculated to be greater than 750,000 hours. Airflow of 250 LFM is required for full output power, while convection cooling will provide 100W over the temperature range of –5°C to +50°C, after which the unit will derate linearly at 2.5%/°C up to 70°C.
