Fairchild Presents Seven New Planar MOSFETs

August 19, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Fairchild Semiconductor International (South Portland, ME) introduced seven new high-voltage, planar MOSFETs offering low on-resistance, low gate charge and high energy density in avalanche and commutation modes. The new MOSFETs feature an advanced stripe structure technology and smaller packaging, and are suitable for advanced switch-mode power supplies and dc/dc converters.

The 500V FQP18N50V2 in a TO-220 package, for example, has a figure-of-merit over 21 percent lower than the leading competitor’s similarly packaged product, and the 200V FQD18N20V2, housed in a D-PAK package, has a figure of merit that is over 39 percent lower than the leading competitor’s comparably packaged device, according to the company.

Pricing for the FQD18N20V2 is $1.50, $1.50 for the FQU18N20V2, $1.80 for the FQP18N20V2, $1.80 for the FQPF18N20V2, $3.00 for the FQP18N50V2, $3.00 for the FQPF18N50V2 and $3.50 for the FQA18N50V2, all in 1,000-piece quantities. Samples and production quantities are available now, with lead times of 12 weeks or more for larger orders.
