Everlight Introduces New 4-Pin SSOP Phototransistor Optocouplers

New Products Aug 18, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Everlight Electronics Co. Ltd. introduced a 4-pin SSOP phototransistor optocouplers with what is described as the best available combination of key specifications sought after by power supply designers. These include a low-profile (2mm) package, high isolation voltage (3750 Vrms), minimum creepage distance (5mm), wide operating temperature range (-55 to +110°C), multiple current-transfer-ratio (CTR) bins and high breakdown voltage (80V).

The new EL3H7-G series’ 11 devices are well suited for use in dc-dc converters, battery chargers, general-purpose switching circuits and programmable controllers. Compared with conventional optocouplers, the EL3H7-G devices offer important features and benefits, including: smaller form factor (2mm max. package height and 1.27mm lead pitch) accommodates designs with limited board real estate; higher temperature operation (110 vs. 100 °C) improves system reliability; selectable CTR ranges characterized at low LED currents increase design flexibility; higher isolation voltage (3750 vs. 2500Vrms) improves insulation characteristics; and halogen-free, Pb-free and RoHS-compliant devices meet green environmental initiatives.

According to the company, the combined features provided by the new EL3H7-G optocouplers allow power supplies to deliver the maximum usable power over a wider temperature range. They also offer a wider margin of safety in applications and provide greater design flexibility for high-end applications.

"Everlight’s EL3H7-G series enables power supply designers to now derate their boards up to 110 °C while using an ultra-low-standoff-height device that accommodates low-profile applications," said Krish Ramdass, Optoelectronics Marketing, Everlight Americas, Inc. "Because these 4-pin SSOP optocouplers are capable of reaching higher operating temperatures, they enable dc-dc converters to achieve higher efficiencies and power ratings, as well as improved thermal performance."

The units are priced (each) at $0.10 to $0.20 (in production quantities), with a delivery time of 4 weeks, ARO.
