Ericsson Intros PMA DC/DC Regulators

New Products Nov 18, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Ericsson Power Modules AB (Sweden) announced its new PMA family of surface-mountable dc/dc regulators that offer 1.2V to 5V outputs at high current; the 3.3Vin/2.5Vout and 5Vin/3.3Vout versions are rated at 6A to 8A output and all other models can deliver up to 12A. Applications include radio base stations, microwave links, switching equipment, high-speed routers, optical transmission systems and broadband access equipment.

The new modules feature efficient thermal transfer; a mean time between failure of over 12 million hours; 3.3Vdc, 5Vdc or 12Vdc input operation; 95-percent efficiency; integrated input filtering; input-output synchronization; remote control; output-voltage trimming; output sensing; measurements of 36mm x 20mm x 8.5mm; a weight of 12g; and an operating temperature range of -30 to +85 degrees C.

The PMA modules are produced using lead-free solder and bromide-free encapsulating resin to comply with current and future environmental regulations, including RoHS and WEEE. The PMA costs $13.90 each in OEM quantities for the full-featured version or $12.00 each with limited filtering. Both versions are available in sample quantities now, with volume manufacturing due in March 2003.
