EPCOS Presents New B32656-C Series Capacitors

December 02, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

EPCOS AG (Germany) announced that new 5 µF to 60 µF devices have been added to the EPCOS line of four-pin, link circuit capacitors operating on voltages from 250 Vdc (180 Vac) to 850 Vdc (350 Vac). The new B32656-C Series capacitors are equipped with four terminal wires as standard, where the spacing varies with case size.

A polypropylene film metallized with an aluminum-zinc alloy, and specified for a temperature range from –55 °C to +85 °C is used as the dielectric of the new power capacitors, which are self-healing. A plastic case, in which the winding is fixed in place by epoxy encapsulation, ensures mechanical stability. Depending on type, the capacitors can handle high currents and can operate on up to 50 Arms at 70 °C/100 kHz, have permitted self-heating up to 15 K, and can withstand peak currents up to 600 A. The devices also feature a low equivalent series resistance of less than 35 mΩ at 100 kHz and a low equivalent series inductance.

The B32656-C Series comprises various types with standardized case sizes from 16 mm x 28.5 mm x 41.5 mm to 35 mm x 50 mm x 57.5 mm. Customer-specific variants can be supplied on request. Ratings range from 15 µF to 60 µF at 250 Vdc, and from 0.27 µF to 0.47 µF at 2,000 Vdc, with the usual capacitance tolerances from ±5% to ±20%.
