EPCOS Power Surge Arrester Stack for Telecommunications Equipment
TDK Corporation presents a new EPCOS gas-filled surge arrester. This component consists of a stack of five individual arresters and was developed specifically to protect the power supplies of telecommunications equipment. Its rated DC operating voltage is 48VDC plus 20 percent according to IEC 61643-11. The special feature of this arrester is its reliable quenching of an applied DC voltage.
The arrester stack with a type designation of LN8-A1400DC-5 measures a compact 16.3 x 8.4 x 8.9 mm³ and thus takes up significantly less space than five discrete arresters.
This protective component has a surge current capability of 20 kA at an impulse wave of 8/20µs and 4 kA at an impulse wave of 10/350 µs. The arrester conforms to climate category of 40/ 90/ 21 of IEC 600068-1 and is designed for operating temperatures from -40 to +90 °C. With an extremely low capacitance of less than 1 pF (1 MHz) and a high insulation resistance of more than 10 GΩ (100 VDC), this RoHS-compatible SMD component has negligible parasitic coefficients.
The LN8-A1400DC-5 arrester is also available on tape and reel for automated SMD placement with the type designation LN8A-A1400DC-5.
