Emerson Unveils Astec AIF-300Vin Series DC Converters

New Products Jul 05, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (St. Louis, MO), announced its AIF-300Vin Series of integrated dc-dc brick converters from Astec Power (Carlsbad, CA). With power density up to 108 W/in³, the new devices can deliver up to 600 W of output power from an input range of 250 Vdc to 420 Vdc. The series includes six models with single-output dc voltages of 1.8 V, 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V, 15 V, 24 V, and 48 V.

The AIF-300Vin family offers a host of embedded functions that include monitoring, protection, and adjustment capabilities as well as a communication bus that can store valuable end-user information. Operating at a wide baseplate temperature range from -40 °C to +100 °C, the new models reach up to 90% efficiency at 5 V output. The key embedded functions include current sharing, enable, output-voltage adjust, clock-in, temperature monitoring, and output-current monitoring. The AIF-300Vin devices include the I2C interface with an internal EEPROM for data storage; an internal microprocessor that can control all of the monitoring and adjustment features through the I2C interface bus; and a number of safeguards such as over-temperature, over-voltage and over-current protections.

The Astec AIF family employs surface-mount designs and meets international performance and safety standards, including those from UL, cUL, TUV, and CE. Priced from $220 each in OEM quantities, the 1.8 V, 3.3 V, and 5 V output models are available now, while the 12 V, 15 V, 24 V, and 48 V output models will be available in July 2005.
