Emerson Releases AC-Powered DC UPS

March 22, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

Emerson Network Power has released version 2.0 of the NterpriseIP™ system, the first ac-powered dc uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system designed for converged networks. Additionally, NterpriseIP Rev 2 has met the Cisco Technology Developer Partner Program test criteria for interoperability with Cisco Unified CallManager 4.1 (2), Cisco Unified CallManager 4.0 (2), Cisco Unified Personal Communicator, and Cisco Unity Bridge.

The NterpriseIP Rev 2 integrates technologies from Emerson Network Power's Energy Systems and Liebert brands and is marketed through the Liebert sales network. Liebert joined the Cisco Technology Developer Partner Program as a Unified Communications participant. Through participation in the Cisco Technology Developer Partner Program, NterpriseIP Rev 2 provides a complete solution for ensuring the availability of IP telephony equipment to enterprise customers.

"When we moved to an IP telephony system we needed the same reliability and availability as our former PBX system," said Michael Murphy, CEO of DVL, a Philadelphia-area reseller with a focus on mission-critical applications. "We selected a Cisco Unified Communications system consisting of one 4507R switch and Cisco Unified CallManager. Since we don't have a generator, this additional load would have placed an unacceptable power demand on the ac UPS system. To solve these issues we installed a 4,500W NterpriseIP solution. This ac powereddc UPS was a key component based on best cost, while achieving unmatched redundancy, the extended run times required, complete scalability and flexibility for future requirements."

Available in 4,500W, 6,000W and 15,000W configurations, the NterpriseIP Rev 2 pre-wired cabinet includes an integrated ac-powered dc UPS with battery backup and remote management capabilities and space for a Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series Switch. Highly adaptive, the NterpriseIP Rev 2 can support extended battery runtimes, an ac-powered UPS, battery monitoring and internal distribution cables. It delivers the power, reliability and thermal management required for the successful deployment and operation of Unified Communications systems and is particularly well-suited for hubs and closets supporting 96 or more IP devices

"Cisco supports open, standards-based architectures and shares a commitment to interoperable solutions with Liebert and Emerson Network Power," said Dianne Bruno, product manager for Cisco Unified CallManager. "With Cisco Technology Developer Partner offerings such as the NterpriseIP Rev 2, customers can deploy a broad range of business solutions that foster innovation and drive rapid adoption of business-critical technologies."
