Emerson Intros ATH Series POL DC Converters

January 13, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (St. Louis, MO), introduced the new ATH Series point-of-load (POL) dc converter lineup for wireless, optical, networking, storage and industrial systems. The new dc converter series features devices from 6A to 30A. The high-efficiency devices are fully compatible with the recently announced Point-of-Load Alliance form, fit and function standard that provides multi-sourcing convenience and interoperable parts to OEMs.

The new devices feature AutoTrack™ sequencing technology that enables the non-isolated power modules to track each other, or any external control voltage allowing multiple modules to be powered up and down in sequence with no external circuitry. With efficiencies as high as 96%, the versatile modules are suitable for distributed power architectures in various wireless infrastructure, optical switching, networking, storage and industrial systems that use digital signal processors, field programmable gate arrays, application-specific integrated circuits and microprocessors.

Available in open-frame, through-hole or surface-mount configurations, the ATH Series enable step-down dc-dc conversion from a 3.3V, 5V or 12V input with adjustable output voltages of 0.8V to 5.5V, depending on the model (0.8V to 2.5Vout for 3.3Vin, 0.8V to 3.6Vout for 5Vin, and 1.2V to 5.5Vout for 12Vin). The series covers five scalable product ranges that support up to 6A, 10A, 15A, 22A and 30A. Each of the models can be ordered with surface-mount or through-hole termination, and tray or tape-and-reel packaging. Key features include advanced pre-bias startup capabilities, margin up/down control, on/off inhibit, output-voltage adjust, output over-current protection, and operation over a wide temperature range from -40°C to +85°C.

The new models are designed to meet worldwide safety and performance standards. Samples are available now, and OEM-quantity prices will start at $9 for the 6A model and range up to $23.50 for the 30A model.
