di/dt Inc. Updates the Amperage Ratings of the Newly-Launched Q Series of Surface-Mount DC/DC Converters

February 12, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

di/dt Inc. (Carlsbad, CA), which recently launched the Q Series of quarter-brick dc/dc converters, has already updated the current rating for the devices. The converters are now rated 35A and 25A, depending on the version. Claimed to be the first surface-mount converters in the quarter-brick format, these converters weigh only 27g and measure 2.3" x 1.45" x 0.26".

These surface-mount converters employ patent-pending circuit and packaging techniques to achieve very high power densities. At full-rated output current (35A), the 2.2V output surface-mount version delivers 133W per cubic inch. Even in a 70 degrees C ambient environment with 200 linear feet per minute airflow, Q Series converters are rated for 20A, producing an effective power density of 76W per cubic inch for 3.3V output units.

In addition to the surface-mount configuration, Q Series converters are available in the industry-standard quarter-brick through-hole pinout. The Q Series, with newly-updated current ratings, is available for sampling now, with production scheduled for August 2001. In quantities of 1,000 pieces, the 35A Q Series converters are priced at $92.
