Dialog Semiconductor Intros DA9010 Controller IC

March 16, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Dialog Semiconductor plc (Germany) announced the development of the DA9010 controller IC for Intel's PXA800F cellular processor to be used for GSM/GPRS phones with enhanced application capabilities. Available in an 8mm x 8mm, 121-pin, BGA package, the IC performs key power management and high-performance audio functions for a GSM/GPRS cellular phone. It connects directly to the phone's battery and provides stable, low noise power for the circuits within the phone.

The controller includes 12 low-dropout (LDO) voltage regulators, dc/dc buck converters, vibrator drivers, a 24-bit stereo digital-to-analog converter and 16 headphone drivers. Additional regulators are available for enhanced application capabilities such as Bluetooth modules, camera modules and SD memory cards. The DA9010 also features the company's SmartMirror technology, which enables the LDO regulators to use an advanced compensation and biasing technique compared to conventional regulators. The technology allows the regulators to bias themselves proportionally to the output current requirement, without needing to switch between different operating modes.
