DC-DC Converter Targets PoE Applications

GE's CP2500DC45PE-F compact power line dc-dc converter with front input connector features an input current of 40 to 72 Amps and programmable output voltage range from 44 to 58 Volts, providing high-density Power over Ethernet (POE)-compliant power in a minimal form factor. Part of the company's recently launched rectifier portfolio, the new converter has been specifically designed to operate as an integral part of a complete distributed power system. The 1U-high solution, also referred to as a power entry module (PEM), provides users with a unique feature—it moves the input connector from the back of the unit to the front to meet customers' space and access requirements.

This design feature is particularly important to embedded front-end power applications where rear power entry is often undesirable or even impossible. In addition, the unit provides 2,250-Volts of isolation as required by enterprise-driven PoE solutions. The new dc-dc converter complements GE’s CP3000AC54TE-F rectifier, together providing comprehensive solutions for systems connected either to commercial ac mains, 48/60-Volt power plants or telecom central officers. It also is slot-swappable with the CP3000AC54TE-F rectifier.

Target applications include 48-Volt distributed power architectures, power over Ethernet (PoE) solutions, routers/switches, VoIP/soft switches, LAN/WAN/MAN applications, file servers, indoor wireless, telecommunications equipment, enterprise networks, SAN/NAS/iSCSI applications and advanced workstations. Feature set flexibility also makes this PEM suited for applications requiring modular dc-dc bulk intermediate voltages such as in distributed power.
