CWS Offers New CWS-5 Series SMT Inductors

August 18, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

CWS Coil Winding Specialist (Santa Ana, CA) introduced its new CWS-5 Series of high-current SMT inductors with low-loss planar flat helical windings on high flux and molypermalloy (MPP) powder core construction. The CWS-5321B (40 A), CWS-5322B (50 A), CWS-5291B (60 A) and CWS-5292A (80 A) inductors are wound using thick flat helix wire on high flux and MPP cores with distributed air gaps to achieve minimum core loss and high efficiency, as well as reduced DCR and parasitic inductances. The helical flat coil also reduces skin effects and reduces the ac resistance.

Applications range from planar output chokes to planar inductors in dc-dc converters and ac-dc power supplies. The saturation flux density is over 10,000 gauss (1,000 mT), and can withstand large voltage swings. The windings are CWS proprietary flat coil with 2.4 mm width and insulated with 250 °C kapton material. The operating temperature rating of the CWS-5 Series is –55 °C to +125 °C. The maximum dc resistance is 0.4 to 2.1 milliohms, which results in a low power loss rating. The inductors measure 0.52 in x 0.52 in x 0.21 in with 0.10 in SMT leads. The inductance range is 0.3 µH to 2 µH.

Pricing for 10,000-unit volume quantities is $0.95. Free samples are available for large OEMs. Lead time is stock to two weeks.
