Cosel USA Introduces New Isolated DC-DC Converter Series
Cosel USA introduced its MG Series, a new generation of dc-dc converters which the company says combines high reliability and long life, with an industry standard 1X1 or 1X2 form factor. These 15 and 30W converters offer high power density and efficiency of up to 92%. The MG series is 30 to 40% smaller than the last generation, reducing the space required on the PCB. In addition the Cosel MG Series has 6 sided shielding. This means that valuable PCB space under the MG series can be used and no additional shielding is required. According to Cosel, other manufacturers only provide 5 sided shielding, which dictates that the space under the dc-dc converter must be shielded or void of traces.
In the course of use, surface mounted parts inside dc-dc converters can suffer mechanical stress resulting from changes in operating temperature. This can cause fatigue and cracks at the solder joints. Cosel uses a new soldering technique, along with a flexible potting material that significantly reduce stress on surface mounted components in the MG series, resulting in greater reliability and longer life.
Features include: 6 sided shielding; an operating emperature of -40 to 85°C; a wide range 4:1 input available; remote On/Off; built in fuse; 1500Vdc isolation; and meets UL safety standards UL60950-1, C-UL (CSA60950-1), and EN60950.
