Cosel Intros CES/CQS/CQB/SFS Series DC Converters

April 07, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Cosel Co. Ltd. (Japan) announced the launch of four new open-frame (with no heatsink), isolated, dc/dc converters suitable for computer and communication equipment applications. The new CES, CQS, CQB and SFS Series dc/dc power modules are eighth-brick (CES) and quarter-brick (CQS & CQB) converters.

The CES and CQS Series are single-output type converters of 1.8V, 2.5V and 3.3V with an output power range of 54W to 148.5W. The CQB Series is another quarter-brick converter with dual outputs of 1.8V (17A) and 3.3V (15A) (total power 80W). The new power modules feature a high efficiency of 92.5 percent for the CQS Series at 3.3V, and a high density of 120W/in³ for the CES Series, and 134W/in³ for the CQS Series. In addition, the wide operation temperature range of -40C to +85C and high reliability without built-in aluminum and tantalum electrolytic capacitors make the converters are suitable for telecommunications applications.

The SFS Series is another small-size converter with a small footprint and a low-profile, measuring only 39.9mm x 5mm x 27.2mm for the SFS10/SFS15 (10W/15W), and only 39.9mm x 8mm x 31.2mm for the SFS30 (30W). The series can deliver 1.2V to 15V output voltage and can operate in a wide operating temperature range between -40°C and +85°C.

The SFS and CQS Series converters will be launched in May and July of 2003, respectively, and the CES and CQB Series converters will be available in August 2003.
