Conexant Intros CX24152/5 Single-Chip STB System

May 20, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Conexant Systems Inc. (Newport Beach, CA) introduced its CX24152/5, a single-chip system for interactive satellite set-top box (STB) applications. The technology includes all of the major subsystems required to implement the core system receiver and decoder components of an interactive direct broadcast satellite STB. The CX24152/5 uses on-chip, one-time-programmable memory technology to for the ability to personalize individual STBs via the system IC with unique serial numbers and encryption features.

The CX24152/5 also integrates an MPEG-2 audio/video decoder, a two-dimensional graphics accelerator, a television encoder, a video/graphics display compositing controller and a set of peripheral input/output ports for STB front and back panel connectors, making memory ICs, a CX24109 silicon tuner and a CX20493 SmartDAA modem line side IC the additional requirements for a complete satellite STB hardware system design.

The devices are sampling now, with volume production scheduled for third-quarter 2003. The CX24152/5 is packaged in a compact 27mm ball grid array and is priced at $18 each in 100,000-volume quantities.
