Clare Expands Power Relay Family by Offering AC-DC and DC-only Devices

New Products Apr 09, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Clare, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of IXYS Corp., announced that it has expanded its family of ac-dc and dc-only 1-Form-A Solid State Power Relays with the CPC1708 and CPC1709, offering designers up to 24 and 32A (at a Case Temperature of 25°C) of current handling, respectively. The CPC1708, available in the i4-PAC,™ has a blocking voltage of 60V and 0.08Ω of on-resistance. The CPC1709, available in the ISOPLUS-264 package, also has a blocking voltage of 60V and 0.05Ω of on-resistance.

Development of these power relay products was founded on the blending of Clare’s traditional strengths in the design and manufacture of photovoltaic integrated circuits (ICs), leadframe design and multi-chip packaging with IXYS’ expertise in power MOSFETs, power packages and substrate technology. Optically coupled MOSFET technology is used to provide 2500Vrms of input to output isolation and, as in all Clare solid state relays, the optically coupled output is controlled by a GaAIAs infrared LED.

Clare power relays are now offered in three package types; the Power SIP, the i4-PAC and, the ISOPLUS-264 (the latter two are self-isolated). The Power SIP package offers pin-to-pin compatibility with other solid state relays providing an easy upgrade path for existing designs and compatibility for new designs.

This unique, RoHS compliant, family of 1-Form-A high-power Solid State Relays (SSRs) delivers the industry’s highest power MOSFET-based SSRs. Applications include: motor control, robotics, medical equipment, railroad and traffic controls, consumer appliances, industrial controls, and, test and measurement equipment, and they are certified to UL 508 Standard for industrial control equipment.
