Chroma Adds High-Accuracy Data Loggers

New Products Oct 29, 2012 by Jeff Shepard

Chroma Systems Solutions announces its new 51101 series of multi-function data loggers. The 51101 multi-function data loggers fulfill requirements of recording temperatures, voltages, currents, and other behavioral measurements during research, product development, production, and quality assurance procedures with recordable channels ranging from one to several hundred.

Chroma's thermal/multi-function data loggers measure temperatures, voltages, and currents with high accuracy and resolution. Eight types of thermocouples are supported with an ITS-90 defined temperature range at 0.3°C accuracy and 0.01°C resolution; higher than other data loggers available providing 1°C accuracy and 0.1°C resolution. In order to achieve such high accuracy and resolution, Chroma implemented individual Cold Junction Compensation (CJC) for each channel. High bit-count A-to-D converters and an advanced noise suppression circuit help provide its outstanding performance.

Chroma's data loggers include 1000VDC channel to channel isolation, meaning thermal couples can be attached to devices with high voltage, such as batteries, solar cells, working PCBs to obtain precise data without failure. For quick and constant data retrieval per channel, parallel architecture is used rather than sequential multiplexing which can slow as more channels are used. No matter how many channels are active, the data rate can be as fast as 5 samples per second per channel.

The 51101 series includes models with 1, 8, or 64 channel on-line data recording capable of linking multiple 64 channel units to a PC for hundreds of channels. One (1) and eight (8) channel models are USB powered; no battery or external power supply is required. Models support B, E, J, K, N, R, S, and T type thermal couples with ITS-90 defined temperature range.
