Cherokee Unveils Apollo Series DC/DC Converters

New Products Jan 28, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Cherokee International LLC (Tustin, CA) announced the Apollo Series of single-output, 30A, quarter-brick, dc/dc converters, which are suitable for telecom, datacom, automatic-test and semiconductor-fabrication equipment requiring high current, low voltage and fast transient-response times. The Apollo product family is available in base-plate and open-frame versions with 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V and 3.3V outputs.

The Apollo Series features a thermal-management strategy and a high-efficiency level of 90.5 percent at 3.3V. Additionally, the open-frame converters have a 0.411in profile and support the 0.6in card-pitch telecom requirements. The base-plate versions are suitable for wireless base stations deployed in uncontrolled ambient environments. The Apollo converters deliver a fast transient response with a recovery time of 100µsec at a 25-percent load step, and a 0.1A/µsec rate of change. Cherokee implements a unique drive scheme within the implementation of synchronous rectification, which minimizes heat loss, as well as uses onboard heat-transfer devices that drive thermal energy away from heat-dissipating MOSFET transistors.

Pricing for 1,000-piece quantities is $59. The 3.3V converters are now available with 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V and 2.5V converters shipping within the first quarter.
