CES Power Highlights – Batteries
As always, there was a large number of batteries and battery packs for portable electronics introduced at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), but a few stood out from the crowd. For example, there's the PowerAll from Gryphon Mobile Electronics, LLC that can power multiple USB-powered portable devices and jump-start your car (and it includes a flashlight). Anker, Inc. introduced its PowerIQ technology which auto detects the ideal charging amperage for a given device (e.g. 0.5A for feature phones, 1.0 A for smart phones and 2.0 A for tablets). And TYLT Inc. introduced a portable wall charger with folding ac-prongs that includes a 3,000 mAh Li-ion battery and USB charging port.
The PowerAll is equipped with two 5V / 2.1A USB ports that can charge two separate devices fast and simultaneously. Once devices are fully charged it will go into sleep mode to preserve the battery. If your car won’t start you can use the PowerAll with the jumper cables (included) to start your car battery. It can be used multiple times (Up to 20x on a full charge). And the PowerAll includes an LED flashlight with two illumination modes: Constant On and SOS Signal Light. Once activated the SOS signal flash will stay on continuously for up to 120 hours on a full charge.
There is one main USB adapter cable with 8 different adapter plugs that will fit most major portable electronic devices. A pair of heavy-duty jump start cables is also included that easily plugs into the socket on the device to allow you to jump start your vehicle. There are also ac and dc chargers for recharging the PowerAll at home or on the road. It has over current protection, short circuit protection, overload protection, over voltage protection, and over charge protection all built-in to ensure the safety of all your valuable devices and vehicles.
Making their debut at the 2014 International CES, the Astro Pro series were the first Anker external batteries to feature PowerIQâ„¢ technology, ensuring the fastest possible charge for every mobile device. Unlike most other chargers that are hardwired for Android or Apple, PowerIQâ„¢ takes the guesswork out of compatibility using a microchip to intelligently identify your mobile device and enable the maximum charging speed.
Both the Astro Pro and Astro Pro2 are constructed with sleek aluminum for durability and a slim design for optimal portability. LCD screens easily and accurately display the percentage of power level, charging status and voltage selection. Reinvented to evolve with the needs of today’s multi-device consumer, the new Astro Pro series offers a total of four charging ports – three USB ports powered by PowerIQ™ quick-charge technology and an adjustable 9/12 volt port – capable of charging up to 4 devices simultaneously. Also, an energy efficiency rate 10 percent higher than the previous generation creates even more usable power.
The Anker Astro Pro 15000mAh battery features enough power to charge smartphones four to seven times and tablets one to two times. The Astro Pro itself is charged completely in just four to five hours using the included 110-240Vac adapter. For users who need even more juice, Anker’s Astro Pro2 packs a 20000mAh punch capable of charging smartphones six to ten times and tablets up to three times. The Astro Pro2 will charge itself completely in five to six hours.
All of the products in TYLT’s new Energi Travel Charger line include foldable ac prongs and USB ports, which enable users to charge both their battery and phone at the same time. When users need to charge on the go, they can simply unplug the charging device and take a charged battery with them. Rami Rostami, CEO of TYLT, said: “We have been fine-tuning this technology for some time and are very excited about the new Energi product lineup. We’re looking forward to debuting these products at the 2014 CES.â€
TYLT’s Energi Travel Charger line includes the Energi 3K (3,000mAh) with a built-in micro USB arm and the Energi 3K+ (3,000mAh) with a built-in Apple Lightning charging arm. Both the 3K and 3K+ also include an additional USB port and two amp circuit to charge two devices simultaneously. Packed with power and only two inches wide by three inches tall and less than one inch thick, the Energi 2K (2,200mAh) will charge almost any device fully with its universal USB port.
