Ceramic Core Wirewound Fixed Resistors

May 19, 2015 by Jeff Shepard

Bourns, Inc. today introduced two new series of low thermal resistant ceramic core wirewound resistors. These axial lead resistor families give designers an effective circuit conditioning solution for applications that have very high temperature and voltage requirements and operate in harsh environmental conditions. The Bourns® Model W and WS Series fixed resistors offer E24 resistance values, have been designed to operate at extreme temperatures from -55 to +200 degrees C and are coated in a material that meets the UL 94V-0 standard. Bourns introduced its latest wirewound fixed resistor series to meet the circuit conditioning needs of a broad range of industrial and consumer applications such as smart meters, white goods, power supplies, instruments/gauges, lighting and renewable energy systems.

The Bourns® Model W Series features a wide power range from 1W to 10W and provides resistance values ranging from 15 ohms to 150 ohms. It has been designed to withstand the surge from the 1.2/50 µs voltage waveform described in IEC 61000-4-5. The Bourns® Model WS Series has a power range of 1W to 8W and a resistance range of 15 ohms to 3.3K ohms.

“We specifically introduced the additions to our circuit conditioning product portfolio so our consumer and industrial electronic customers can meet ongoing application requirements for high temperature stability, enhanced power handling capabilities along with low resistance values,” said Brian Ahearne, product line manager at Bourns, Inc. “These new families also complement the other circuit conditioning components offered by Bourns that include PTC resettable fuses, power inductors, rectifier diodes and Zener diodes.”

The Bourns® Model W and WS series wirewound fixed resistors are RoHS compliant* and available now. As a pricing reference, the Bourns® Model W3M is priced at $ 0.12 each in 10k piece quantities and Model WS3M is priced at $ 0.15 each in 10k piece quantities.
