Celestica Presents New Q Class Converters

April 21, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Celestica Inc. (Toronto, ON) announced the launch of its Q Class power converters for communications equipment. The new 50A, quarter-brick, dc/dc converters set a new benchmark for quarter-brick packages, offering over 20 percent more current than the 30A to 40A quarter-bricks currently available on the market, according to the company.

The new Q Class converters deliver 30A/cu-in and up to 88 percent efficiency at 1.8V. With a 2.28in x 1.45in x 0.45in form factor, the Q Class converters enable customers to replace existing half-brick converters with quarter-bricks, and the 0.45in profile allows the converters to fit into tight spaces in a communications system. In a typical system environment of 50 degrees C, 200 LFM airflow, the converters deliver 42A of usable current in a 1.8V model, without the use of an external heatsink.

The Q Class converters are available in output models of 1.8V, 1.5V and 1.2V. The new series works off a nominal 48Vin, with a range of 36Vdc to 75Vdc. The Q Class quarter-brick converters will be available in mid-June 2002.

Pricing starts at $80 per unit on an annual purchase of 1,000 units.
