Calex Announces LCS Series DC-DC Converters

August 15, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Calex Manufacturing Co. Inc. (Concord, CA) announced its LCS Series of dc-dc converters, which are designed for applications with limited headroom. The LCS converters have total package dimensions of 1.25 in x 0.80 in x 0.28 in. The operating temperature range is from -40 °C to +105 °C. The ambient operating range is from -40 °C to +85 °C, making the LCS suitable for high-temperature applications with limited space/airflow.

The LCS Series offers a wide 2:1 input range; 9 Vdc to 18 Vdc, 18 Vdc to 36 Vdc, or 36 Vdc to 72 Vdc. Output options are 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V, and 15 V. The LCS is fully isolated input to output. The isolation voltage is 1,544 Vdc. The switching frequency of the LCS is 300 kHz. Efficiencies range from 72 percent to 78 percent. Line-and-load regulation is 0.2 percent and 0.5 percent, respectively. Output noise for the 3.3 V model is 50 mV peak-to-peak and 75 mV peak-to-peak for the 5 V, 12 V, and 15 V output models. Short-circuit protection is provided.

The LCS is backed by a five-year warranty. Pricing for the LCS converters is $12.95 for 1,000-piece quantities. Units are available from stock to four weeks.
