BI Technologies Intros HM33 Series Transformers

November 07, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

BI Technologies' (Fullerton, CA) Magnetic Components Division has expanded a current-sense transformer featuring optimal performance at 250kHz and above. Designated the HM33 Series, these compact transformers are suitable for switching supply applications and are compatible with surface-mount machine-assisted placement.

"As the applications for switching power supplies become more demanding, the need to incorporate high-frequency transformers within limited board space has substantially increased," explained David Smolik, director of product development for BI Technologies' Magnetic Components Division. "The flexibility of this design enables us to provide an efficient transformer with exceptional performance at high frequencies in a compact package to meet the specific design needs of our customers. In addition, the HM33 reinforces BI’s magnetics division commitment to provide the most cost-effective, technologically advanced products for magnetics users."

The HM33 Series offers turns ratios ranging from 1:30 to 1:125 at 10kHz, thus minimizing the wattage of the terminating resistor. Custom ratios are also available to accommodate the specific needs of circuit designers. Inductance values range from 180µH to 3,000µH. Operating temperatures range from –25 to +105 degrees C.

Made of a compact ferrite core, the HM33 Series transformers are suitable for use with surface-mount pick-and-place machinery. Typical pricing for the HM33 Series transformers is $1.00 in quantities of 100,000, with lead times from 8 to 10 weeks.
