Beta Dyne Updates Family of 150 W DC-DC Converters

July 15, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Beta Dyne Inc. (Bridgewater, MA) announced an update of its family of 150 W, high-voltage dc-dc converters. The series has undergone several changes beginning with an expansion in the number of models, an increase in power output, improved efficiency and a lower price. With the update, there are now 12 single-output and 12 dual-output models for a total of 24 models. The series is suitable for telecommunications equipment that use a 48 V supply. The converters can also be used in applications where a bipolar ±24 Vdc or ±37.5 Vdc is required.

The converters accept 12 Vdc, 24 Vdc or 48 Vdc input (2:1 input-voltage range) and produce a regulated 12 Vdc, 15 Vdc, 48 Vdc or 75 Vdc (48 Vdc at 3 A, 75 Vdc at 2 A) output with an adjustable range of ±5%. The refresh also brings about a bump in power output. Models offering up to 200 W (Vin limited to 48 Vdc only) are available upon request.

The converters feature up to 92% efficiency, 1,500 Vdc input-to-output isolation, a 2:1 input-voltage range, input under-voltage protection, output over-voltage protection, soft-start, adjustable output, a 300 KHz switching frequency, thermal protection and six-sided shielding. The converters are designed and tested for an input-to-output isolation of 1,500 Vdc.

The converters are housed in a black-coated copper case with six-sided shielding that measures 3 in x 2.56 in x 0.75 in (76.20 mm x 65.02 mm x 19.05 mm) and weigh 7.87 oz (223 g). Units are available in four to six weeks ARO. Prices start at $134.10 each; discounts are available for larger quantities.
