Beta Dyne Debuts Q75 Quarterbrick Series DC Converters

October 19, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Beta Dyne Inc. (Bridgewater, MA) introduced its new Q75 Quarterbrick Series, the latest addition to its PowerWatt family of dc-dc converters. The new Q75 Series is a family consisting of 18 models of 75 W single-output dc-dc converters that feature input-voltage ranges of 18 Vin to 36 Vin and 36 Vin to 72 Vin, and output voltages from 1.8 Vout to 24 Vout.

The Q75 Series improves upon the open-frame design of the original PowerWatt 75 W series with an integrated nickel-plated aluminum case and anodized aluminum heatsink. The new case and heatsink designs minimize thermal resistance from the multilayer PCB to the case. The new case also provides six-sided shielding to eliminate EMI and RFI. The converters feature high efficiency and power density as a result of patented designs that utilize improved synchronous rectification techniques and planar magnetics.

The Q75 Series also features an industry-standard pin out, 50 µS transient response time, 150 µA off-state current, 1,500 Vdc isolation voltage, output synchronous rectification, 2:1 input-voltage range, input-to-output isolation, soft start, short-circuit protection, thermal protection, under-voltage protection, and external synchronization. The operating temperature range of the new converters is -40 °C to +71 °C and dimensions are 2.50 in x 1.40 in x 0.75 in (63.50 mm x 35.56 mm x 19.05 mm).

The 18 models offer various input and output voltages to meet the needs of the electronic data processing, instrumentation, industrial, medical, communications, computers and fiber optics industries. Units are available in four to six weeks ARO. Prices start at $98.10 each, with discounts available for larger quantities.
