AVX Presents TPS III Series Capacitors

New Products Nov 19, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

AVX Corp. (Myrtle Beach, SC) announced the new TPS III Series tantalum chip capacitors featuring good electrical characteristics, low ESR, high stability and high reliability. The capacitors utilize MnO2 technology in tandem with tantalum dielectrics to meet the needs of switch-mode power supply, microprocessor and digital circuit applications.

The devices combine the reliability of standard tantalum with the field performance, stability and electrical/thermal stress resistance of traditional MnO2 to deliver reduced dc leakage, a wide voltage range and operating temperatures up to 125 degrees C.

The tantalum capacitors feature conductivity that increases as temperature increases, resulting in reduced ESR at elevated temperatures. They operate from voltages ranging from 4V to 50V, with a maximum capacitance value of 1mF at tolerances of ±10 percent and ±20 percent. The operating temperature ranges from -55 to +125 degrees C. ESR values are as low as 40 milliohms and ripple current values are up to 2.5Arms.
