AVX Intros 0402 TACMICROCHIP Tantalum Capacitor

New Products Nov 21, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

AVX Corp. (Myrtle Beach, SC), a manufacturer and supplier of passive electronic components and related products, introduced a new 0402 tantalum chip capacitor, the 0402 TACMicrochip™ Series, which offer a high volumetric efficiency while delivering up to 10 µF in an 0402 case size. The TAC 0402 tantalum chip capacitors are suitable for applications that require high capacitance values along with low leakage, such as in battery-powered equipment, as well as medical applications such as heart pacemakers.

Typical specifications for the 0402 TACMicrochip Series include high industry CV values for 0402 devices, such as 10 µF at 2 V, 4.7 µF at 4 V, 2.2 µF at 6.3 V, and 1.0 µF @ 10 V, with maximum ESR values of 15 Ω at 100 kHz. The TACMicrochip Series is offered in a lead-free version, and features soft termination technology that compensates for the thermal mismatch between components and the PC board. The TACmicrochip 0402 devices have a stable capacitance range from -55 °C to +125 °C.

The new TACmicrochip™ Series are also available in 0603, 0805 and 1206, or standard L, R and A case sizes as well as the 0402 (K case size). Pricing for the TAC Microchip Series ranges from $0.45 to $0.55 in quantities of 10,000 units, with lead times from four to six weeks, and samples available immediately.
