Artesyn Technologies Offers SIL15E-12M POL Converter

November 10, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Artesyn Technologies Inc. (Boca Raton, FL), a leader in power conversion solutions for the communications industry, announced its SIL15E-12M non-isolated point-of-load (POL) converter that combines conversion technology with voltage control features. Based on Artesyn’s 15 A SIL15E POL converter, the remotely configurable version incorporates an I2C bus interface that simplifies set-up and control. The SIL15E-12M is intended for high-end applications in the telecommunications and data communications markets.

The SIL15E-12M POL converters have an input-voltage range of 10 V to 14 V and a wide 0.8 V to 3.36 V output range. The converters use a synchronous buck regulator topology with synchronous rectifier timing, and can generate up to 15 A with a high full-load efficiency of 92%. The SIL15E-12M POL converters employ an open-frame, single-board construction to minimize cost and weight and simplify thermal management. Designed for through-hole, vertical mounting, the converters feature single-in-line connections, have an industry-standard footprint of just 2.0 in x 0.33 in, and an above-board height of 0.5 in.

The SIL15E-12M POL converters accommodate a wide operational temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C ambient, with de-rating, and are designed as high reliability products with a mean time between failure in excess of 3.5 million hours (in accordance with Telcordia SR-332). Sample quantities of the SIL15E-12M POL converter are available now, and production quantities will be supplied in 84-piece cartons. Pricing for 1,000-piece quantities is $18.45, and the standard lead time is stock to eight weeks.
