Artesyn Technologies Announces the EXQ125 Series of Converters

July 24, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Artesyn Technologies (Boca Raton, FL) announced a new addition to its range of high-efficiency, quarter-brick, dc/dc converter modules. The new EXQ125 Series produces up to 83W of output power and measures 2.28in x 1.45in x 0.5in. The series features a power density of more than 50W per cubic inch. The converters are initially available with 3.3V, 2.5V or 1.8V outputs. The 2.5V and 1.8V units can deliver up to 30A, and the 3.3V unit can deliver up to 25A. The converters feature an input-voltage range of 33V to 75V, and are suitable for use in systems employing a 48V distributed power architecture, including any that operate from a -48V central office battery plant.

Artesyn’s EXQ125 series dc/dc employ synchronous rectification to achieve high conversion efficiencies. The converters’ open-frame construction means that there are no thermally conductive potting compounds between power dissipating components and heat-sensitive control circuits. Designed for fully automated assembly, the EXQ125 Series converters are constructed entirely from SMT components, and have a standard quarter-brick footprint.

All converters in the EXQ125 Series offer an output-voltage-trim facility that enables the output to be adjusted between 90 and 110 percent of nominal. All three converters in the series also offer a remote on/off facility. The converters have no minimum load requirement, and are comprehensively protected against over-voltage, over-temperature and short-circuit conditions. The converters have a 1,500Vdc isolation rating and carry a full set of international safety approvals, including EN60950 and UL/cUL1950. The converters are designed to meet all relevant standards for use in telecommunications equipment, including ETS 300-019, ETS 300-132-2, and ETS 300-386-1.
