Artesyn Offers New niPOL DC/DC Converters

Artesyn Technologies Inc. (Boca Raton, FL) launched a new series of 12V input, point-of-load (POL), dc/dc converters, with efficiencies to 94%, power densities to 247W/in³ (15W/cm³), and typical heights of 0.32in (8.2mm). The new E-class non-isolated POL (niPOL) converters are available with 5A, 10A or 15A outputs, and have no minimum load requirement. Designed for use with a 12V nominal on-board bus source, the converters will actually operate from an input voltage from 10V to 14V.

The new E-class comprises four models, offering output voltages that may be set anywhere from 0.8V to 3.63V by means of a single external resistor. The niPOL converters employ a synchronous buck topology, using fixed-frequency (300kHz) switching and ultra-low on-resistance MOSFETs, delivering high conversion efficiencies of 94% typical, at 12Vin and 3.3V at 15A full load current. The converters incorporate a number of high-end features to support leading-edge product designs, including remote sense, remote on/off, and comprehensive protection against over-temperature and short-circuit conditions.

The converters will operate over a -40°C to +85°C ambient temperature range, and are designed for high reliability, using conservative component de-rating criteria. In addition the 15A variants will deliver the full 55W output at 60°C under natural convection. The new series carries a full set of international safety approvals, including EN60950 (TÜV product service) and UL/cUL60950.

Pricing for 10,000-piece quantities starts at $8 for the 5A part, at $10.45 for the 10A part, at $14 for the 15A part, and the standard lead time is stock to six to eight weeks.
