Artesyn Launches SIL06/SIL15/SIL30 Series Converters

September 02, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Artesyn Technologies Inc. (Boca Raton, FL) launched three new families of single-output, non-isolated, point-of-load (POL) converters that are designed for use in computer workstations, PCs, servers and data storage devices. The SIL06, SIL15 and SIL30 Series of dc/dc converters employ an open-frame, single-board construction to minimize cost, weight and thermal management issues, and use fixed-frequency switching technology to maximize conversion efficiency.

The SIL06 Series is the smallest of the new POL converters, and can handle output currents up to 6A. The devices feature horizontal mounting measurements of 30.5mm x 15.5mm x 13.4mm, vertical mounting measurements of 30.5mm x 11.3mm x 15.5mm, nominal input voltages of 5Vdc and 12Vdc, typical conversion efficiencies of 89 and 91 percent, a trimmable output from 0.9V to 3.3V, and a wide output-trim range from 0.9V to 5.0V.

The SIL15 Series converters handle output currents of up to 15A. The modules feature a power stage heatsink, horizontal mounting measurements of 30.5mm x 27.9mm x 12mm, vertical mounting measurements of 30.5mm x 10.2mm x 27.9mm, nominal input voltages of 5Vdc and 12Vdc, typical conversion efficiencies of 89 and 91 percent, a trimmable output from 0.9V to 3.3V, and an output trim range of 0.9V to 5.0V.

The SIL30 Series converters can handle output currents as high as 30A. The devices feature a dual-phase switching topology, horizontal mounting measurements of 60.9mm x 34.3mm x 12mm, vertical mounting measurements of 60.9mm x 12.7mm x 31.7mm, a nominal input voltage of 12V, a typical full load efficiency of 91 percent, and a trimmable output from 2.5V to 5.0V.

The SIL06, SIL15 and SIL30 Series offer a remote on/off facility, a power-good output signal, input under-voltage lockout, and over-current and short-circuit protection. The converters have an operational temperature range of 0 to +50 degrees C ambient, and carry a full set of international safety approvals, including EN60950 and UL/cUL60950.

Pricing for 10,000-piece quantities is $5.80 for the SIL06, $8.50 for the SIL15 and $13.85 for the SIL30. Standard lead times on the converters are from stock to eight weeks.
